The nuclear fusion energy of the sun served as the primordial spark that gave birth to our planet. This immense force drove the evolution of Earth’s atmosphere, rich in carbon dioxide, and allowed the first plants to emerge in the seas. Over billions of years, despite facing challenging environmental conditions, plants continued to thrive. Recent NASA observations have revealed a paradoxical increase in plant growth, as they absorb the rising levels of carbon dioxide emitted by humans.
In Tatsuru Arai’s installation work, Face of the Universe, sounds and images, which represent the flowers of the city of Seoul, are generated through algorithmic analysis and artificial intelligence systems. According to the artist, the wildflowers flourishing amidst urban concrete symbolize the resilience and coexistence of nature and urbanization, bearing witness to the ecological history intertwined with solar nuclear fusion energy. They represent the ‘face of the universe,’ symbolizing the enduring and profound connection between terrestrial life and the infinite expanse of stellar space.

Bio
Tatsuru Arai’s main artistic theme is to integrate classical compositions with new technologies, such as “MUSIC OF TRANS-AGES,” and to present the fundamental physical nature of the universe in the form of perceptual experiences, that is, the aesthetics of “geometric structure.” Indeed, Arai believes that human perception of sound, as a physical phenomenon, influences human beings and that “geometric structure” is a fundamental pillar that enables us to understand the true nature of the universe.
